Kay C. Barnett, CFRE, serves as Executive Director of Development of the CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital Foundation in Lake Charles. She oversees all philanthropic efforts at the Hospital.
Barnett received her degrees in Education and Journalism from LSU and certifications in Planned Giving, Capital Campaigns and Major Gift Fundraising from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business. In 2009, she received the CFRE Certification of Fundraising Executives, which requires mastery of proficiency and knowledge in the philanthropy field of international standards.
Barnett served on the Board of Commissioners for the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District, Port of Lake Charles from 2003–2011, having held the position of president in 2005 and 2009. She has been appointed secretary for Port Rail, Inc., a newly formed corporation of the District to develop a short-line railroad for the Port.
Barnett has served as Business Development Consultant for CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital, Co-Founder of the Cancer Support Center, Vice President of Marketing for Premier Bank, Bank One and First Commerce Corporation, Executive Director of the Calcasieu Arts & Humanities Council and Endowment Specialist for the McNeese State University Foundation.
She is on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Greater Lake Charles, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is a current member the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Barnett has served as Coordinator for the building and rebuilding of the Lake Charles Millennium Park playground projects and on the Boards of Directors for the Council for A Better Louisiana, Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, LANO, Junior League of Lake Charles, Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, Family and Youth Counseling Agency, American Heart Association, 21st Century Community Learning Center Advisory Board, Salvation Army, Lake Charles Symphony and others.
Barnett recently received several awards. She was recognized as one of the 2011 Philanthropist of the Year recipients by the Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana for her contributions to the betterment of Southwest Louisiana. She also received the 2011 Leadership Southwest Louisiana Distinguished Alumni Award from the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance for her leadership service and impact of leadership for the communities of Southwest Louisiana.
In 2012, Barnett spearheaded a committee for the Partnership for a Healthier Southwest Louisiana coalition to seek funding through the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation to build healthier communities in the area. Close to $1 million was granted to the Partnership in August, 2012 for implementation of a three-year project for the region.
In the 2012 Louisiana Legislative Session, Barnett was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve as a member of the board of commissioners of the newly formed Chenier Plain Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority that will oversee and develop efforts to restore and protect the coast of Southwest Louisiana.
